ICAO 4\/5\/6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The pilot of an experimental <strong>amateur-built airplane <\/strong>\u00a0reported that he felt pressured by a <strong>trailing airplane<\/strong> while in the traffic pattern at the airport in Grass Valley, California.\u00a0He further reported that this pressure caused him to <strong>turn base<\/strong> and then final sooner than expected, which resulted in an <strong>increased airspeed<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>higher than expected altitude<\/strong>\u00a0on final approach.<span id=\"more-118134\"><\/span><br \/>\nHe decided to <strong>proceed with the landing<\/strong> \u00a0<strong>with the intent of\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong> using the length of the runway to reduce the airspeed.\u00a0The <strong>flare and landing <\/strong>were affected by the higher than normal airspeed, and resulted in a hard landing.<br \/>\nDuring the landing roll, the Zodiac began to <strong>veer to the left and right )<\/strong>, which progressively increased, resulting in a runway excursion to the left.\u00a0During the runway excursion, the plane hit a taxiway sign, which <strong>disabled the brakes <\/strong>.\u00a0The airplane continued across the airport until it hit a parked airplane on the ramp.
