SABRE\u00a0engines are unique in <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">deliver<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">ing the <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">fuel efficiency of a jet engine<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> with the power and <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">high speed ability of a rocket<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>capable of &#8230;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>mode<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>They are simply going to revolutionise the way we travel around the globe<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>provide different levels of thrust<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>various applications<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unlike jet engines, which are only <strong>capable of<\/strong> power<strong>ing<\/strong> a vehicle up to Mach 3, three times the speed of sound, SABRE\u00a0engines are capable of Mach 5.4 in air-breathing <strong>mode<\/strong>, and Mach 25 in rocket mode for space flight. <strong>They are simply going to revolutionise the way we travel around the globe<\/strong>, and into orbit. Like jet engines, SABRE\u00a0can be scaled in size to <strong>provide different levels of thrust<\/strong> for <strong>various\u00a0applications<\/strong> which is crucial to our success &#8211; it&#8217;s going to enable a whole generation of air and space vehicles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This study examined the technologies required to reduce long-distance flights\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SABRE\u00a0will make the world smaller through high-speed point-to-point transport. To demonstrate the uses for SABRE\u00a0in Mach 5 cruise applications, Reaction Engines engaged in a 50% EU-funded project called LAPCAT \u2014 Long-term Advanced Propulsion Concepts and Technologies. <strong>This project examined the technologies required to reduce long-distance flights<\/strong>, e.g. From Brussels to Sydney, to just over 4 hours while cruising at Mach 5.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>propulsion<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>most development testing can be done on the ground<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>affordable<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>less risky<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>finalize the design<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Another way in which SABRE\u00a0is unique as a high-speed<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> propulsion<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> system is that <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">most development testing can be done on the ground<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">. This fact enables a much faster, more <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">affordable<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> and <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">less risky<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> journey towards achieving operational high-speed vehicles.
